Hello, my name is Justin Breithaupt and I have owned and operated Computer Rescue for 4 years as a business and have fixed customer's computers for 8 years. I bought my first computer in 1999 when I was 12 with Windows 98. I shared your pain of Windows ME and the bugs when XP first came out. In 2002 an X Microsoft employee (who wrote DOS - Windows 95) mentored me and told me there was a better way. He had just retired after hearing that “Project Longhorn” was being developed. (Project Longhorn was a project to make DRM and Trusted computing a part of Windows as a way of monitoring customers activities which started with ME, and NT that I found out about after it came out) The alternative was either Mac (which is owned by Microsoft) or Linux (which is owned by me and you). I had used Mac in school and found that it lacked the software that I needed and was to costly. So I decided to give Linux a try. I have 15 years of experience using computers.
At first I wanted to try to work for someone in Lewiston Idaho at a computer repair shop. At that time no one was interested in computers that didn't need maintenance. I have received requests from some of these businesses to go to work for them. I explain that I can't because my customers enjoy it when I come in to their house and fix their computer so that they don't have to take it any where.
I've been completely Windows Free for 2 years now. I still fix Windows computers for people and try to convince them to use Linux. 75% of them decide to use Linux instead. Most of them are people that buy new computers from me. I often check back to make sure that everything is ok and have received letters in the mail sometimes with extra money thanking me for my services.
I have had 4 years of college education and have earned 3 2 year college degrees. Computer Hardware, Programming, and Support. I have done IT work for NAPA auto parts and do IT work for IBM.
as a business is to make sure that your computers work longer than
your other appliances in your home, that they don't need maintenance,
and that they do what you want them to do. We also want to make sure
that you can afford to buy our products.
We have achieved this goal.
In order to make computers last longer we refuse to use low quality parts and all computers are assembled in the United States of America.
Why don't our computers need maintenance? As long as the hardware does not fail the computer will keep running. This means that the only maintenance you may need to do is to clean the dust out of the computer. The reason we can say this is because our software does not get fragmented unless you fill a partition on your hard drive beyond 95% of it's capacity. Our computers don't suffer from Windows or Mac viruses. As the CEO in my personal experience with Linux computers I have only had one virus one time on a Linux PC. This virus did not affect my Linux PC but it was a Trojan that infected FireFox and to remove it I just clicked Tools and Clear all private data. The Trojan was instantly gone and I have not seen it sense.
In order to make sure that our computers do what our customers want we ask each customer what they use their computers for before hand and install the software that they need. If any of that software is proprietary then there will be an extra fee for the price of that software.
In order to make sure you can afford to buy our products and still have quality we try to limit our profit to the amount necessary to stay in business.
So What Does It Look Like? You have some choices. You can go with Linux Vixta, PCLinuxOS, or another Linux distribution. (What is Linux?)
